Resilience Hub

Resilience Hub

With changing weather patterns due to climate change, and with the increased likelihood of intense storms such as Storm Arwen, communities in Northumberland have been encouraged to establish what are known as standby ‘resilience centres’ where residents can take shelter in the event of prolonged power outages or damage to their properties caused by adverse weather conditions.

We have been fortunate to receive a grant from Northern Powergrid Foundation, and a Tesla battery backup system has now been installed in the Bamburgh pavilion that will automatically switch in to maintain heat, light, internet services and limited hot food preparation for up to several days following power loss due to a severe weather event.

Should any residents have to make use of the resilience facilities, the key to the pavilion is currently available from the Vic, and to where it should be returned once the emergency is over.  Note also that the pavilion can be used, not just in the case of severe weather, but also if a prolonged power outage has resulted in loss of heating in your home and you need somewhere warm to go.

It is hoped that this resource brings a measure of safeguard as our climate changes.
